Hot Chocolate Fudge, Vanilla Ice-cream, Milk, Oreos and Crunchy Sprinkles |
Ever since I read my friend Simran's post on A Little Yumminess: Hot Fudge Sauce a few months ago, I stocked my pantry with a few cans of condensed milk and a couple of bags of chocolate buttons and chocolate chips, just in case I had a sudden urge to make fudge sauce (or anything to satisfy unforeseen chronic attacks of chocolate cravings). Well, the weather has been exceptionally hot these few days, even though we're just in the middle of spring. This gave me the perfect excuse to whip up some hot fudge sauce for making the most chocolatey milkshake ever, with the kids in mind, of course.
This is my first attempt at making fudge sauce, and I couldn't believe how quick and easy it was. Five minutes - that's all it took! Condensed milk isn't as sweet as some of you might think. When combined with the semi-sweet dark chocolate, the result is a little like liquid chocolate toffee with a subtle milky sweetness (as opposed to sugary sweet). I can't think of anything more versatile than fudge sauce. Apart from milkshakes and sundaes, it's also great with desserts, cakes, sandwiches, or use it for a chocolate fondue (with fruits and bread, and cheese too perhaps). The kids love love love chocolate milk, and this was definitely a huge hit with them!
A definite hit with the kids! |
Have a go at making this delicious fudge sauce! Then, all you need are milk and ice-cream for a super-duper chocolate milkshake. The fudge is rich enough that it works well even without the ice-cream. Here are the recipes below.
Chocolate Fudge Sauce Recipe
Adapted from A Little Yumminess
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup Nestle dark chocolate melts
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp cream
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of sea salt
Method
Combine all ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high for 45 seconds. Stir with a metal spoon and heat again for 40 seconds. Repeat this step and you should get a thick, smooth and glossy looking chocolate fudge sauce. Use immediately or refrigerate until required.
Stripey Hot Fudge Milkshake Recipe
Ingredients
1/4 cup warm chocolate fudge sauce
1 cup cold milk
1-2 scoops vanilla ice-cream (optional)
Some ice-cubes
Crushed oreos and sprinkles etc (optional)
Method
Take a tall glass, and then spoon some of the warm fudge sauce down the sides of the glass to form stripes. Add the ice-cream, ice-cubes and milk, top with oreos/sprinkles if used, and serve with a long spoon and some straws. Stir well before drinking, or else your face might turn blue from trying to suck the fudge sauce up the straw! Enjoy!
